Update on Tuishime School

Published 19 October 2017

The school continues to be well run and a positive atmosphere maintained. There has been an increase in teacher numbers perhaps as a result of increasing the number of pupils (now over 400). Some teachers could be better used to improve the development of resources and enhancing other aspects of the school. 9 new laptops were given to the school by Hope for Tanzania. As some desktop computers were infected with viruses and didn't work we spent time removing damaged equipment and replacing with monitors, keyboards and mouses that we had brought over from UK.
We encouraged the senior management team to meet together regularly to discuss and direct the school in a better way. We set up a process whereby teachers could apply for further training after submitting a written application and being interviewed by the headteacher. We spoke about the need for better financial planning to address the shortfall in school income and balance its budget. This could mean that the school needs to set up new businesses to obtain additional funds. We gave the school 5 music keyboards so that children could be taught to play and read music as well as enhancing school singing and dancing activities. The school now appears to be relatively mature in stature which is a great encouragement to us.
