Hope for Tanzania

Start of New School Year

Published 16 January 2011

Schools in Tanzania start their academic year in January and the private school of Tuishime is no exception to this. We were interested in seeing what impact the excellent exam results of the Grade VII students would have on the intake at the School. The week of January 10 started slowly and 170 children were on the School role but by the end of the week there were 200 and we expect that number to rise. We are delighted that the number is so high as it means that more children will be educated as well as the School receiving more income to employ teachers and pay them a more reasonable salary. The School now offers French (spoken by many countries in ex French colonies in nearby African countries (such as Rwanda and Democratic Republic of the Congo). It has also started teaching computing, using two new laptops given by friends of the School which supplement the ones that Hope for Tanzania donated in 2009. We expect that these subjects will attract additional children to the School.
