Hope for Tanzania

Reflections on Visit of Andrew Mathias

Published 01 July 2012

Andrew, a teacher from Tuishime School, was in the UK for 3 weeks in June during which he visited 3 primary schools and one secondary one. He learnt much about the way education is delivered in English schools which will be useful to him, and the education department, in improving standards in Tanzanian schools. In particular the good discipine in the schools he visited, the good work ethic of teachers, timekeeping, high quality resources, use of creative teaching methods, non-use of rote learning impressed him as being significant differences between schools in each country. We also took Andrew to meet a wide range of people including sponsors of children, Hope for Tanzania trustees and other supporters. We held a garden party for people to meet him, which was a great success. We hope that the personal connections made at this event will result in additional people supporting the work we are doing in Tanzania. Now Andrew is back in Arusha, teaching at Tuishime School and re-united with his family. We look forward to receiving his visit report.
